WordPress hosting managed by the person responsible for the website

Managed WordPress Hosting

A suitable hosting environment, controlled migration and direct technical support for established business websites that need more than a cheap server account.

No anonymous support chain. No promise of impossible zero downtime. Clear responsibilities and a tested route back when something goes wrong.

Hosting is part of the website’s operating environment

A WordPress website depends on more than disk space. PHP versions, database resources, backups, caching, security settings, email delivery and plugin behaviour all affect whether the site remains usable.

I provide managed WordPress hosting for suitable business websites where direct technical responsibility is useful. The service is not designed to compete with mass-market hosting on price. It is designed to reduce the gap between the person managing the server and the person expected to understand the website.

Before a site moves, I review what it uses, what could be affected and whether the proposed environment is appropriate.

Managed hosting reduces avoidable uncertainty, but it does not make a website immune to software faults, attacks, third-party outages or business interruption. The scope explains what is monitored, backed up and supported.

Cheap hosting becomes expensive when nobody owns the whole problem

The common failure is not always the server itself. It is the handover between a hosting company, a developer, a plugin supplier and a business owner who is expected to work out which one is responsible.

Typical warning signs

  • Support replies with generic instructions rather than checking the site
  • Backups exist but nobody has confirmed how a restore would work
  • Updates are delayed because previous changes caused failures
  • Resource limits or caching create intermittent behaviour
  • Email, DNS and website responsibilities have become mixed together

What managed hosting should provide

  • A known environment selected for the site’s actual requirements
  • A controlled migration with checks before and after the switch
  • Clear ownership of hosting-level incidents and escalation
  • Backups with a defined retention and practical restore route
  • Plain-English communication when another supplier is involved

The hosting service is defined around the website rather than sold as a generic package

The final scope depends on the site and the agreed support relationship.

Assessment and migration

Review of the current site, hosting constraints, DNS dependencies and a planned move with pre-launch and post-launch checks.

Hosting environment

A managed environment suitable for the agreed WordPress site, including SSL configuration, caching and resource allocation where applicable.

Backups and recovery

Scheduled website and database backups, retention appropriate to the package and a documented route for an agreed restore request.

Direct technical support

Website and hosting issues assessed by somebody who can inspect WordPress, rather than passing every problem between unrelated suppliers.

Uptime checks and alerts can identify symptoms, but they do not replace diagnosis. A slow page, failed payment or missing email may originate in WordPress, an external service, DNS or the visitor’s route to the site. The support process starts by identifying the responsible layer.

This is managed hosting for suitable sites, not unlimited support for every platform

I only take responsibility where the website, access and technical condition make the service workable.

A strong fit

  • A WordPress site has a clear owner and legitimate business purpose
  • The website can be assessed before migration
  • Plugins, themes and integrations are supportable
  • The business accepts defined backup, update and response boundaries
  • Hosting is part of an ongoing professional relationship

Not a strong fit

  • A site is already compromised and needs incident response before migration
  • The business wants the cheapest possible server space only
  • Unsupported software must remain untouched indefinitely
  • Email, domains and third-party systems are assumed to be included without scope
  • The expectation is guaranteed uptime or instant support at all times

A website that has been neglected for years may need a separate stabilisation project before it is safe to host and support. Moving an unstable site without addressing the underlying condition simply transfers the same risk to a new server.

Website delivery and support evidence is more useful than invented hosting testimonials

These are broader WordPress case studies rather than hosting-only claims. They demonstrate the type of website responsibility, technical delivery and ongoing relationship that managed hosting needs.

LAN Support

A restrictive website was rebuilt into a flexible WordPress platform, with clearer structure and direct technical delivery.

CMI Technology

A rebrand and bespoke WordPress build combined catalogue functionality, SEO foundations and a clearer customer journey.

The hosting service does not claim that these project outcomes came from hosting alone. Hosting supports the website; it is not a substitute for good design, maintenance, SEO or a strong offer.

Migration and support are handled as controlled technical work

1. Review the current websiteI inspect the agreed WordPress setup, resource needs, plugins, domain dependencies and any known history of failures.
2. Confirm suitability and scopeYou receive the proposed hosting arrangement, responsibilities, exclusions, price and any work required before migration.
3. Prepare backups and migrationA current backup is taken and the site is copied or prepared without changing the live service prematurely.
4. Test the target environmentPages, forms, login, integrations, caching and relevant scheduled tasks are checked on the new environment.
5. Complete the switchDNS or hosting changes are made in a controlled window, followed by direct checks of the canonical site and key journeys.
6. Manage the ongoing serviceBackups, hosting-level monitoring and agreed support continue. WordPress maintenance or development is handled under the relevant separate service.

The price follows the site, resources and support responsibility

A small brochure site and a busy ecommerce or membership site should not be placed into the same generic package. Pricing is confirmed after the current site and expected use have been reviewed.

Factors that affect the quote

  • Traffic, storage, database and backup requirements
  • Staging, deployment or specialist caching needs
  • Critical forms, ecommerce or scheduled processes
  • Migration complexity and DNS dependencies
  • The level of direct support and maintenance agreed

Not included unless written into the scope

  • Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or general mailbox support
  • Domain ownership disputes or third-party DNS administration
  • Unlimited WordPress development and content changes
  • Malware forensics, incident response or formal security testing
  • Guaranteed uninterrupted service or recovery from every external event

WordPress care plans and managed hosting are related but not identical. The proposal states whether updates, testing and development time are included or supplied separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you host every WordPress website?

No. I review the site first. Unsupported software, an active compromise, unsuitable resource needs or unclear ownership may need separate work before hosting is offered.

Is this the same as a WordPress care plan?

No. Hosting provides the operating environment and agreed hosting support. A care plan covers defined WordPress updates, testing, checks and support. They may be combined in a proposal, but the responsibilities remain clear.

Are backups included?

Scheduled backups are included according to the agreed package. The proposal states retention, frequency and the practical restore process. A backup is useful only when the recovery route is understood.

Can you move the site without downtime?

I plan and test migrations to minimise disruption, but no responsible provider can promise that every move will have zero interruption. DNS, third-party services and the condition of the existing site can affect the result.

Do you provide business email?

Email is not assumed to be part of website hosting. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another provider can be handled or connected under a separately agreed scope.

What happens if a plugin breaks the site?

I assess whether the issue is hosting, WordPress, a plugin or another service. The response then follows the hosting or care-plan scope. Development work outside that scope is quoted separately.

Is the hosting UK-based?

The proposed environment and data location are confirmed in the individual quote. I do not make a blanket location claim without checking the service being supplied.

Can I leave if the arrangement no longer suits us?

Yes, subject to the agreed terms and payment of outstanding work. I will provide a practical handover of the website data and information covered by the service.
